You definitely have to try out this 2-ingredients play dough. It’s super soft and smells heavenly too. Additional bonus: making this play dough will make your hand smoother and softer at the end – no joke!
This play dough uses hair conditioner and corn flour (also known as corn starch). Get the cheapest hair conditioner you can find as you will need to use quite substantial amount of it. I used up the entire tube of Rejoice hair conditioner (170ml) and it yields sufficient play dough for 1-2 kids.
It is not suitable for younger children below 3 or kids who still like to put things in their mouth. On the upside though, it smells heavenly and working the dough is like giving your hands a mini hand mask.
Here’s how to make it (adapted from Kids Activities Blog).
Play Dough Ingredients:
1 part hair conditioner
2 parts corn flour (also known as corn starch)
Food colouring (optional)
Mix hair conditioner and corn flour in a large bowl. Slowly add additional corn flour until you reach play dough consistency.
- If using colourings, divide dough according to the number of colours you wish to make.
- Flatten each portion a little, add a little colouring and then mix thoroughly until colour is evenly spread out.
And there you have it. Simple DIY play dough to occupy your little ones at homes. It’s also suitable for play dates or parties since it’s a relatively mess free play ideas.
Playing with play dough give your little ones’ fingers a good workout. It is also a good opportunity for them to practice their fine motor skills i.e. their ability to coordinate small movements of the hand or wrist with their eyes. The reason why we want to encourage their fine motor skills is that it is believed to boost children’s intelligence 🙂
